Having battled difficulties involving alcohol, probation, anxiety, depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Tara overcame adversity through her sheer determination.Supported by Wales Community Rehabilitation Company, her Probation Officer and Addysg Oedolion Cymru | Adult learning Wales, Tara succeeded in securing employment in Ail Gyfle, an upcycling project in Llanelli. She is now progressing on to achieve her Award in Education and Training (AET) which she intends to use with those within the Criminal Justice System attending Ail Gyfle. In Tara’s words, ‘I could never picture myself where I am today, happy, working with a lovely team and enjoying what I do’.

Siân’s win was as a result of her overcoming personal challenges, becoming an inspiration to her fellow learners through her drive and determination. Siân faced challenges as a carer for her mother, but when she died Siân suffered her loss which in turn led to depression and alcohol addiction. To help give herself a positive focus, Siân enrolled on a craft course run by Addysg Oedolion Cymru | Adult Learning Wales – this proved to be a lifeline for her. Since starting the course Siân has gone on to run a local flower show helping to raise funds for the Air Ambulance and has also organised a summer craft activity at a village event involving fellow students. Siân has a shown that whatever the circumstances, it is possible to succeed.
