ALW Membership Scheme - Terms and Conditions

Please read the Terms and Conditions for Adult Learning Wales’ (ALW) Membership Scheme below.

Membership is valid for one year from the date of issue. Membership must be renewed and paid for annually using the unique link sent to you in an automated renewal email. You will receive the renewal email when your membership is due for renewal. Once you have renewed using the online renewal form you will receive a new digital membership card attached to the renewal confirmation email. Should you decide that renewal is not for you then simply ignore the renewal emails and your membership will lapse – no payments will be taken from you and you will automatically cease to be a member of ALW.

Membership fees are pay what you can. We recommend £5.00 for the unwaged and £10.00 for those in work, but the choice is yours. The current minimum payment is £1. All membership fees are non-refundable after a 14-day grace period from the time you start your membership. If you cancel part way through your membership year, you are not entitled to a partial refund and will lose the benefits of the membership scheme. In order to process payment transactions for our membership fees, we will ask for your Debit or Credit card details on the payment section of our online membership registration and renewal forms. This is a secure, embedded and integrated payment process facilitated by our organisational ‘Stripe’ account. We do not keep your card details on file.

ALW has the right to change the annual membership fees. Members will receive prior notice before their renewal date.

You have a legal right to cancel the contract formed between us (and receive a refund of the fees paid) within 14 days if you change your mind or decide for any other reason that you do not want to continue your Membership with ALW.

ALW Memberships are non-transferable and hold no cash value.

On completion of registering with ALW’s membership scheme, you will receive a digital membership card attached to your membership confirmation email. The membership card is only valid to the registered user and for the date period shown on the card.

ALW has the right to refuse membership or cancel membership status for the misuse of the membership scheme at any time. 

Information provided by you during your membership registration or renewal will be processed in accordance with GDPR requirements by ALW as data controller and/or data processor for the specified purposes. Your personal data will be retained only for as long as necessary and you have the right to request access to, rectification, or erasure of this data, and the right to restrict or object to it’s processing.  You also have the right to data portability.

The 10% course fee reduction is only valid for online registrations on courses that have a course fee associated to them. A 10% reduction will be made at the time of payment during the online registration process. You will be required to provide your membership number as confirmation of your entitlement to this discount. Your membership number is provided in your membership confirmation email and digital membership card. Places for courses are subject to capacity and are on a first-come, first-served basis. All bookings will be monitored as part of our enrolment process.

The annual ALW AGM, Conference and Awards Ceremony will be held at various locations across Wales. Members are welcome to attend. ALW will not cover transport, accommodation or subsidence costs for members’ attendance.

ALW has the right to change the terms and benefits of the membership scheme at any time. Changes to the membership scheme will be published on ALW’s website.

As part of the membership scheme, ALW works with partners from across Wales to enhance our membership offering. These partners and their offerings may change through the duration of your membership. As a member, you agree to abide by the terms and conditions of our partners, and you may be required to present your valid ALW digital membership card as proof of membership when visiting these partners.    

Any members’ group visits will be arranged with prior notice, and places are limited by capacity. Members will be notified in advance of any additional costs, for example, transport fees.

ALW Members’ newsletters and correspondence will be sent electronically, subject to and in accordance with your indicated contact medium preferences.

By becoming an ALW member, you agree to act in the best interests of ALW and respect our staff, colleagues and fellow members.
