1986 – 2019 Started volunteering in Youth Work 1986 as a junior leader and have worked in the voluntary sector in Newport and Cardiff, with community and faith-based projects up until 2019. Working in open access projects with small groups of young people to large scale 120+ youth clubs. Lead and developed exchange opportunities for young people to Ireland, Denmark, Norway, and Holland. Organised large scale youth concerts and events up to 800. Organised numerous weekend and week-long residential experiences – youth camps for young people.

2001 – 2016 worked with Newport Youth Service as an Area Manager covering several wards across the city and was responsible community-based youth work, developed a Citizenship project for transition years, managed teams of Community First youth workers, was responsible for the Outreach, detached and mobile provision as well as the Participation agenda. BELA qualified for Duke of Edinburgh award and supervised 50+ students from universities as a fieldwork supervisor.

2014 – Current working for YMCA / ALW as a tutor delivering AYWPL2 and CYWPL3 and other professional development training opportunities across Wales.

2016 – Current as a CDC initially with YMCA College Wales and from 2017 for Adult Learning Wales. Developing good relationships with partners in statutory and voluntary sector to equip and train youth workers. Setting up training opportunities and supporting tutors to deliver accredited courses. Supporting learners to access training on-line and in person and enabling them to have positive experience.

2017 – Current coordinate ‘Cefnogi’ Youth Support Network for faith-based youth workers in region, sharing good practice, current youth work policy, developing and giving away resources and ideas. Bespoke training for the voluntary sector and offering professional supervision and mentoring options.

Professionally qualified – BA Hons in Youth & Community Work University of Wales College Newport. 2000-2004 / Master’s Degree – Youth and Community Studies with focus on professional supervision. Cardiff Metropolitan University. 2012-2014

Qualified – Internal Quality Assurance at Level 4 City & Guilds 2017 / Teaching qualification level 4 Certificate in Education & Training 2018 / Inspire Tutor Award Winner 2021

I am passionate about educating and equipping youth workers and young people to enable them to make quality decisions. Valuing the individual, supporting, challenging, and encouraging them as they develop and invest in themselves and young people.
