Overview

Learners will be able to identify and use British Sign Language (BSL) in a variety of situations to provide personal information. This includes greetings, the weather, family members, eating out and clothing.

Content

Session 1: Deaf awareness. Greet and take leave of a BSL user. Fingerspelling people and places. Session 2: Describe family members, provide their ages and descriptions of their eyes, hair, clothes and hobbies . Session 3: Describe rooms in your house. Explain where rooms and objects are located in your house and from pictures. Session 4: Ask if people have pets, describe the characteristics of animals and people, learn food signs and describe flavours and textures.Session 5: Recognise professions by their sign, discuss how people with Deafness communicate with the emergency services. Repeat signs for common ailments. Session 6: Describe travel to local places and different countries. Give directions using a map. Session 7: Put information in context. Use learnt phrases in the past and future tense. Session 8: A session to catch up, practice and assess Sign Language in the workplace.
