Overview

People always lived in an interconnected world. But Rome’s conquest had enormous consequences for the people in Britain, providing opportunities for the subaltern classes of society, as well as stimulating trade both within Britain and with far-fetched regions across the Mediterranean.

Content

The aim of this course is to explore the nature of trade and manufacture in the Roman world, trying to understand developments in Wales and the British Isles in a wider context. Archaeology, numismatics and epigraphy provide a multi-disciplinary approach for understanding one of the peak periods of the Roman economy and the subsequent decline in Late Antiquity.
