In this class we will explore the use of watercolour techniques and mediums to develop our skills in watercolour painting.

Content

This class is suitable for beginners or those with prior experience of using watercolour. In the first six weeks of the course, we will learn about suitable materials and equipment, practise watercolour techniques, and look at colour theory before creating simple landscapes on a winter theme. After half term, learners will create their own response to a brief provided by the tutor. This is an accredited course which includes some written elements. We will also discuss how art works can be exhibited or reproduced and marketed in small enterprise or community projects. Techniques will include:
variegated wash
wet on dry wash
lifting wet watercolour
salt
dry brush technique
lifting dry watercolour
splattering
wet in wet wash
sgraffito
wax resist
graded wash
flat wash

Qualification

Accredited with an Agored Cymru unit.

Entry Requirements

This course is suitable for keen beginners or those with some experience who would like to develop their skills further.

What Do I Need?

A basic watercolour set which includes primary colours in warm and cool shades (pans or tubes are fine)
Watercolour paper - these vary in quality but the cheaper versions will be fine to start
A small selection of brushes including at least one round and one flat brush of a medium size (not too small)
Palette (white porcelain or old white plate ideally)
Cloth to wipe brushes
Water container
A hairdryer to dry between layers if needed
Washi tape or slim low stick masking tape
Watercolour Mediums: Masking fluid, iridescent medium and texturising medium
