Overview

We will cover foundational skills including buttons, zips, seam finishes, understanding your sewing machine, developing hand sewing skills. Learners will be making clothes from patterns, modifying their own clothes, upcycling garments. We will also explore making items for the home, for work and play including toys, book covers, tote bags, simple hats, slippers and gloves. In this class we explore from a range of interests with learners developing individually as well as learner inspired projects that can be worked on in the group as shared projects if learners are interested in working on projects together.

Content

Develop your confidence in sewing as a beginner or refreshing your passion. You tutor will support you to develop a personal plan for sewing where you will be guided through sewing skills and techniques appropriate to your interests and needs.

This course is non accredited.

This course is open to all.

Opportunities to Progress

Progression onto Accredited Courses in Sewing will be offered, as well as other courses focused on developing Entrepreneurship/Self Employment skills.

What Do I Need?

Please bring a basic sewing kit and a variety of fabrics of your own choice. Fat quarters welcome. If you have a PAT tested sewing machine you are welcome to bring it to class. You will be advised on how to build up your materials and tools for your own projects and where to source ideas and materials.
