Due to this course being a Taster Session, we will briefly explore the functioning of this direct democratic system (Demokratia) and what we can learn from it today.

Content

What is democracy and how does it work? In this course, we go back to the origins of democracy some 2,500 years ago and look at the ideals and values of the world’s first demokratia. ‘The rule of the people’ quite literally meant giving all the power to the people of all strata of society, putting them in charge of the political decision making and the courts of laws, with the aim to marginalise the rich and the famous in society, prevent their influence and manipulation, and eventually stop individuals from taking over the state.

Qualification

This course does not provide a qualification. Certificates of Attendance issued when requested by learners.

What Do I Need?

This course is delivered via MS Teams. The organisation will provide an email address and a password in order to access the course. IT Support will be provided to help learners accessing the course, if needed. You will need access to a Desktop/Laptop Computer (or a Tablet), with a camera and microphone to interact with the tutor and other learners. Headphones encouraged to be used.
