Course Delivery - Courses are delivered during term time with an option of online or face to face. Delivery times and dates will vary according to demand. Options may include: mornings or evenings - 18x3 hours or full days - 9x6 hours.
Course Assessment - To complete this qualification, you need to complete tasks using a range of assessments methods including written assignments, video recording, audio recording, PowerPoints with notes and academic posters.
You are also required to complete 35 hours of placement in a youth work setting under supervision of a qualified youth worker who holds a Level 3 or above qualification in Youth Work.

The Level 2 Award in Youth Work Principles qualification is composed of 4 areas of study (units) that supports you to develop the skills and knowledge you need when working with young people in a range of youth work settings. To achieve the Award you must achieve all 4 units:
1. Principles of Youth Work
2. Young People's Development
3. Engaging and Communicating
4. Safeguarding

Entry to the course is subject to a successful application. You must be able to evidence the following in order to complete the application: Age 16 years+, a current Enhanced DBS certificate (within 3 years) or evidence from the update service, agreed placement with a suitably qualified placement supervisor. Additional course requirements - If successful on application, you will need to complete an essential skills assessment during the induction sessions of the course. The results will be used to support you during your course.

The Level 2 Award in Youth Work Principles is taught at the equivalent standards as A*-C GCSE.

When you have achieved the Level 2 Award in Youth Work Principles you can progress to access the Level 3 Certificate in Youth Work Practice. You will need to be 18 years to enroll onto the Level 3. Completion of the Level 3 Certificate in Youth Work Practice will allow you to register with Education Workforce Council (EWC) Wales as a Youth Support Worker.

You will need a laptop with access to the internet. Courses are either delivered face to face or online via Microsoft teams (MST). You will be assessed via Moodle which is an online platform. Adult Learning Wales can support with digital equipment if required. Placement in a youth work setting under supervision of a qualified youth worker who holds level 3 or above qualification in Youth Work.
