This 1–2 day face-to-face course provides practical training and assessment in the safe and competent operation of a tractor on sloping ground. Training takes place on the learner’s farm and can be undertaken using either the learner’s own suitable equipment or equipment provided for the course.

Learners will cover pre-use checks, tractor controls and safety features, assessing ground and slope conditions, understanding the effect of gradients on tractor stability, selecting safe routes, appropriate gear and speed selection, safe manoeuvring, travelling and working on slopes, recognising hazards and reducing the risk of overturning.

Practical training and assessment will develop the skills and awareness required to operate a tractor safely and effectively on sloping and uneven ground in an agricultural working environment.

Learners must be registered with the current Farming Connect programme, have access to the Skills Hub using their RPW Online One Login, and have completed their Personal Development Plan (PDP).

Learners must complete the mandatory Health and Safety – Risk Management in Forestry and Farming e-learning module before attending the course.

Learners should have appropriate tractor driving skills and experience to undertake practical training on sloping ground. Where the learner’s own equipment is used, a suitable tractor in safe working condition must be available.

Lantra Certificate of Training – Tractor Driving on Slopes.

Learners may wish to progress to further tractor and agricultural machinery training, including Tractor Driving, Tractor Driving – Front End Loader, Tractor Driving and Arm Mounted Cutting Equipment, or other specialist tractor courses.

Learners may also progress to other machinery training such as Rough Terrain Telescopic Lift Truck, Counter Balance Forklift truck, Sit-Astride ATV's including Loads and Trailed Equipment, or Sit-in ATV Conventional Steered. Further training can be selected according to the machinery, terrain and activities required for the learner’s work.

Learners should wear suitable clothing, sturdy footwear and the appropriate PPE for practical tractor training and assessment. Where the learner’s own equipment is used, they will need access to a suitable tractor in safe working condition. Any specific PPE, identification, equipment or course materials required will be confirmed before the course.
