Wern Fawr – Working Together for the Community

01-March-2017

Press Release: Following the announcement that learning is to end at the former Coleg Harlech  Wern Fawr site in July, the buildings operator, Addysg Oedolion Cymru | Adult Learning Wales – formerly known as WEA YMCA CC Cymru - has reaffirmed its commitment to Harlech and underlined the importance of working together with the community at a time of uncertainty.

This has been echoed by local community groups, business organisations and individuals united through the Harlech-in-Action group.

In a joint statement with Harlech-in-Action, Addysg Oedolion Cymru | Adult Learning Wales Acting Chief Executive, Kathryn Robson, said that, “We recognise that maintaining the building and its assets for continued community use is vital for Harlech and the region. We will continue with our efforts, working with the community to help ensure that any future use reflects local needs.”

There is growing concern that action needs to be taken at local and national levels to help ensure  a sustainable, long-term future for the Wern Fawr site, while support from the Arts Council of Wales, Gwynedd Council  and Harlech-in-Action maintains a commitment to the theatre to retain the community service. Options for the Wern Fawr site continue to be explored.
