Learner Members Elected to Council

Following the recent stepping-down of student Council members, opportunity for two new learner Council members concluded in a tightly contested election.

We received three nominations, and Jenni Jones-Annetts and Stephen Nicholls were ultimately elected to be the new learner representatives.

Jenni is very active in our Caerphilly branch and was chairperson of WEA South Wales a few years ago. Stephen meanwhile has had extensive experience in the fields of student finance, funding and governance of higher education while working at the Welsh Government.

As with our other Council members, Jenni and Stephen seek to mirror the values and beliefs of the organisation, while putting the learner first and creating a safe environment for learners to develop

Providing strong strategic leadership and challenge to the team of senior staff, the Council act as a guardian of the organisation’s mission. Governors also need to be clear about the distinction between governance and management. It is important that they assist Addysg Oedolion Cymru | Adult Learning Wales in demonstrating accountability to all of our stakeholders, cost effective use of our resources, equality of opportunity and diversity throughout our work, and responsible use of our independence to meet educational needs.

We wish Jenni and Stephen well during their term of office.
