Jan's a Winner!31-March-2014
In 2009 Janet suffered a heart problem which resulted in her having to be fitted with a permanent pacemaker. As a result Janet was not able to work for a considerable period of time as her job in a local hospital involved a lot of heavy lifting. Upon her recovery, Janet was found light duties and was eventually able to return to work.
Whilst at work, Janet noticed a leaflet advertising a short beginners Essential skills course using iPads. Janet enrolled and thoroughly enjoyed the class, so much so that she enrolled on a 30 hour Essential Skills at Work ICT course which lead to a Level 1 qualification.
The course provided Janet with more than just a qualification. During the course Janet grew in confidence, met new friends, and gained new skills in ICT and Communication.
Janet’s tutor, Anthony Rundle, commented “I was amazed at how quickly Janet’s confidence grew after the first couple of weeks”. Janet had been very nervous when she first attended the class, which is typical of all people returning to learn for the first time. However, Janet soon met other learners who were sharing feelings similar to herself and this helped Janet settled to work. Janet amazed her tutor and herself on how quickly she got to grips with the ICT technology and how it helped her communication skills and essential skills needs.
Janet’s new confidence in her achievements has allowed her to seriously consider moving on in her learning and looking at prospective job opportunities. This is something that she would never have dreamed of pursuing before.
