Addysg Oedolion Cymru | Adult Learning Wales is proud to work in partnership with other organisations to provide learning opportunities to a variety of learner needs within the community.
Our approach supports the Welsh Government’s remit in line with the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act and the Anti-Poverty Agenda. Private partnership provision continues to grow with the organisation.
We are renewing partnership agreements with private and voluntary groups that engage with vulnerable groups who do not access traditional community-based learning.

A summary of our current partnership work is provided here:
Parkinson’s UK
• Digital Literacy Programme running in Flintshire
• We were delighted to welcome the Ministerfor Lifelong Learning, Eluned Morgan, to visitthe programme at Café Isa in Mold
Ageing Well in Wales (AWiW)
• The Ministerial visit highlighted the benefits of the programme run which were; Promoting age-friendly communities, addressing loneliness and isolation and developing opportunities for learning and employment.
• Digital literacy to begin in sheltered housing schemesin Wrexham
Snowdonia National Park
• Development of a strategic partnership with the Park to help develop provision
• Aiming to establish our main learning hub at Plas Tan y Bwlch, an excellent facility for our learners and staff
• Further engagement with the Fire Service in progress
Open University
• Development of blended learning Level 3 Diploma for September 2018
• Includes the use of Open Educational Resources and Moodle platform to embed distance learning within the Level 3 programme

• ESOL engagement is substantial, with the organisation continuing to work collaboratively with a wide number of partners. These include:Job Centre Plus, Parent groups, Schools, Remploy, Red Cross, Rubicon, Oasis, Taff housing, Urdd, Mind, Communities First
• In Newport, the ESOL provision has increased to more than half of our total course provision. This is due to re-aligning the delivery to take into account the demise of Communities First
Counselling Programmes
• A recent addition to Counselling programme in the North East is the confirmation that we can run Level 3 Certificate in Life Coaching. The pilot programme started in February in Wrexham
Job Clubs
• A Job club has been established at Lampeter Skills Hub
• This six week drop in programme started in March
• The first session was highly successful and attracted 11 attendees
Learner Events
• A learner forum (Ponthafren Arts Forum) has been developed out of the mid Wales regional forum
• We were delighted to participate in the Swansea Waterfront Museum International Women’s Day event. During the event, we were involved in running sessions on iPads
Big Lottery Fund
• A Helping Working Families bid has been submitted to enable us to work with and support families in the Swansea area

Trade Union Studies
• We are proud to have been awarded the WTUC Quality Award in February which allows us to deliver for WTUC as a quality provider initially for the next 3 years
• Planning for provision in 2018-19 is underway with the Trade Union Education programme about to be finalised
Volunteer Training
• Addysg Oedolion Cymru | Adult Learning Wales have also won the contract from CHC Wales to deliver 3-day volunteer training in all the Community Health Councils in WalesYouth, Community and Play Work (YCPW) team
• The team are delivering over 70 qualifications and accreditations to the youth and play work sector across Wales in both Welsh and English mediums
• Courses are being delivered in all local authorities through local, regional and national partnership agreements to the maintained and voluntary sector
• The courses are part of the initial qualifying routes in both sectors and YCPW team are having an important input into the strategic developments of youth and play work training across Wales
• Feedback from learners has been extremely positive, highlighting that the courses are both enjoyable, confidence building and are equipping them to gain recognised qualifications in the play work sector
Welsh Language
Our strategy sets out our aim to increase opportunities for learners to access Welsh medium and bilingual courses across all regions.We have much work to do in order to generate demand and ensure that we have a clear plan for success.
All regions across Wales have been proactive in generating more activities as set out below, and the 2018-19 curriculum planning process will direct regions to increase provision:
• In Gwynedd, we are progressing development opportunities with Mentrau Iaith Cymru. Following previous discussions with the North region team, a Welsh medium programme to support volunteers is currently being developed. Mentrau Iaith Cymru will deliver a Level 1 programme to its volunteers after Easter
• The regions are actively contacting national organisations and clubs that deliver through the medium of Welsh, including Merched y Wawr, CFfI / Young Farmers Wales and Yr Urdd. We already have a number of activities in place, and there is scope to develop this work further
• We are targeting Welsh medium schools to offer family learning and to capture school leavers who may be at risk of becoming NEET, offering skills for work courses bilingually
• Our branch activities included bilingual lecturers at Llanelli and Neath Port Talbot in March and April
• Recruiting tutors with the requisite Welsh language skills in some subjects can be difficult. However, the implementation of competitive pay and terms and conditions for tutors later this year should help to address the balance
• The 2018-19 curriculum planning process is currently underway and targets will be set within each region to generate demand for Welsh medium and bilingual provision
• This work will be a key feature within the self-assessment process and will be set as a priority within our quality development plan which underpins the strategic aims of the organisation
• The remit of the Welsh and Bilingual group includes a focus on increasing the provision of Welsh Medium and bilingual provision. The activities and outcomes will be reported to Learner Experience Committee
• The introduction of a new post of Curriculum and Welsh Medium Provision Manager will bring ACL and curriculum expertise to the operational team. We are seeking to attract candidates with advanced Welsh language skills, ideally based in North or Mid Wales. A key requirement of the role will be the increase in Welsh Medium provision across Wales.
