Inspire! Awards Nominations 2018 - Betsi Cadwaladr University Local Health Board

Betsi Cadwaladr informatics department have been working in partnership with Addysg Oedolion Cymru | Adult Learning Wales, Unison, Unite the union and GMB to find new and innovative ways of delivering learning to staff.

The ‘HWB’ learning initiative provided a series of learning workshops which supported individuals to work on a specific organisational objective whilst learning new skills and gaining knowledge. The learning has been very different to the traditional methods previously employed. This meant that training was specifically tailored to upskill staff ensuring that they received the best chance of developing, learning and succeeding.

The project has given a variety of staff across a number of disciplines the confidence to believe that they can succeed and learn new skill at any stage in life. One learner says of the project ‘I learnt a vast amount about the anatomy of a project. I originally had no idea of the specific projects and even less about the way the work was organised. If found watching and being involved with the implementation of a major project with such experienced members of staff was not only helpful but quite an inspiration’. And from another participant’s point of view, ‘the HWB project has introduced a group of people from various disciplines to work together and independently on  a selection of projects throughout the Trust’.
