Describing himself as “agitated and anti-social”, Joshua Dance felt school “gave up” on him after struggling through
subjects like English and Maths.

A self-taught dancer and freestyler, Joshua signed up to Youth Contemporary and Street Dance classes with our
partner Rubicon Dance, just before he left secondary school.

Three years on, and Joshua’s passion and determination to succeed has had great positive effect on his confidence
and skills. He’s gained more qualifications and has been awarded a scholarship at London Dance Studio. Joshua
reflects, “I feel like I’ve learnt more here in the last few years than I did throughout my whole school life.”

“I want to show people no matter what background you come from, you can achieve your dreams.”

Joshua has just re-sat his English and Maths GCSEs in preparation for future study at degree level.
