Good News Stories - Scott's Serving up Some Great Work!05-June-2020
Since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, our tutor Scott Baker has been volunteering as a member of the kitchen and delivery team with Oasis Cardiff - a non-profit charity that aims to help Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Cardiff to integrate within their local community.
Scott teaches English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) for us in Cardiff at Entry 3 and Level 1 stages in Plasnewydd Community centre, as well as parents of mixed ESOL levels in Albany Road Primary school.
We asked Scott - who is also a keen learner on our Welsh course - what motivated him to volunteer: Reflecting on his efforts, he said, “I guess I just wanted to play my part and help out. I knew I had time on my hands, and Oasis was literally just around the corner from me in Splott. As well as working in the kitchen I’m also doing some delivering too.”
Scott continued, “I’ve also been doing some shopping for a local resident through the Mutual Aid group, who is sheltering due to health issues. Once a week I get him some groceries, top up his electricity and occasionally pick up his medication from the pharmacy. Again, this is local so convenient for me, and him.”
It is great to see that in times of need, our team is stepping up to the mark in communities across Wales! Well done Scott – keep up the good work in Cardiff.
