Overcoming Barriers in Digital Literacy25-January-2021
Jean Jones from Barry has been a popular community learning tutor for many years. Jean has worked hard to adapt her lesson delivery into fully online learning during the Corona Virus Pandemic, enabling all learners to continue with their studies and development with Jean’s dedication and support. Her methods of teaching have benefited her learners in dramatic ways. She has supported her learners in setting up and sending emails to eventually creating spreadsheets and much more. This has helped her learners improve their ability and confidence.
Learners have come to Jean’s classes from every walk-of-life and every ability level and all have achieved their goals. With some learners starting out with her over a year ago unemployed, with little to no digital literacy skills, progressing through the levels of her courses and going on to find work; thanking Jean for helping them build confidence enough to search and apply for jobs online and go on to attend successful interviews online. Learners that had come to Jean’s classes to ‘upskill’ while furloughed and recently unemployed have also gone on to find work since; using their newly acquired skills.
With Jean’s help, her learners have been able to achieve their goals.
“Being a tutor enables me to share my passion and enthusiasm of being able to use computers/technology every day in many different ways. I enjoy being with and helping people to learn and overcome their fears of technology where I feel a sense of satisfaction and excitement for the learner when ‘that penny drop moment’ occurs - and I am glad to be a part of it. We all learn in different ways, I strive to find each learners way.”
Our best Inspire wishes Jean, from everyone at Addysg Oedolion Cymru | Adult Learning Wales!
