Tutor Joy Williams has used her extensive ICT experience to support her learners stay connected.

Joy has taught over 2000 adult learners in IT and Digital Literacy since becoming a tutor with us in 2016.  This includes Word processing, Getting Online, Use of Email, Creating Spreadsheets, Using a Tablet Computer and many more IT-related subjects.

The majority of Joy’s learners have been over the age of 50, where most sign up to support their voluntary work and/or keep in contact with family and friends online.  Joy has always ensured that learning is relevant to the individual needs of her learners so they are able to use the skills learned outside of the classroom, either at home or in the workplace.

Joy is a valued colleague and tutor, proving that the new ways of lockdown wouldn’t defeat her, she worked hard to support her learners and they have greatly benefited from her work.

Her learners say,

“This year, the computer has been essential, for keeping in touch, buying and selling, and everything else that day-to-day living requires. Joy has been exceptional. I have looked forward to the video calls, and being able to keep up with the course. Her task has not been easy, as most of us are retired, and all are working on different equipment. During lockdown, I really looked forward to meeting up with the rest of the class, it was inspirational, and for me living alone, a great necessity, so my thanks comes from the heart.” - Valerie Griffiths

“Joy is a committed and dedicated tutor who has helped improve my confidence in learning new IT skills for home and for work. She is an inspirational tutor with a natural ability to create a lively and supportive learning environment. In a very challenging 2020 due to Covid-19, I would like to thank Joy for making it possible for our class to meet up each week digitally and continue our learning journey together." - Sheila George

Her colleague says,

“Joy is an inspirational tutor. She fully deserves recognition for the hard work and dedication she has put in over the many years that she has been delivering adult community courses and going the extra mile over the last 10 months to ensure that learners continue to learn new skills while at the same time supporting them with their health and well-being.”

Joy’s work has made a difference to so many of her learner’s lives. She has ensured that they have had the skills, support and guidance to keep in contact with family, friends, voluntary work, hobbies, shopping and other interests.

Joy says,

“Tutoring, to me, means that learners gain the skills to be part of the digital literacy world and are able to support their children and grandchildren with their school homework and online learning. Learners also learn IT and digital literacy skills to support their voluntary organisations and hobbies and interests at home.  Digital literacy skills are now part of everyday life and mature learners must not get left behind!  Being able to shop online has been a lifeline to many learners during lockdown - some of whom have had to shield due to health issues.”
