Our highly experienced florist tutor Sian Valentine who teaches Flower Arranging in Llay Wrexham tells us a bit about herself, shares her learners beautiful work and great feedback. . .

Sian tells us, “I had been a florist for 15 years in South Africa, working at wedding venues and in florist shops. I then came to the UK in 2015 and had been in university for four years studying mental health and wellbeing and a postgraduate in teaching. So, putting the two together and being able to teach what I love doing is very enjoyable!

Our sessions are very relaxed, and the learners have the opportunity to use their imagination when it comes to their creations. A cup of tea and chats are also incorporated, and discussions about what they would like to learn are a weekly occurrence. I like my learners to be involved in the process of what builds their course.

During the ten-week beginners Flower Arranging course, our learners learn the basics of how to prepare flowers. They focus on proportions and sizing and getting arrangements to be symmetrical. This progresses onto learning how to do hand tied bouquets and how to wrap these as gifts. Following on from this course, our learners can go onto a more in-depth course with us that incorporates more artistic designs, wedding flowers, party arrangements and competition style flower art.
