Addysg Oedolion Cymru | Adult Learning Wales is delighted to be celebrating International Women’s Day today, both in classes delivered face-to-face and online. The campaign theme of this year’s IWD is #Break the Bias, and our learners across Wales, are being challenged to:

Imagine a gender equal world.
A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.
A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
A world where difference is valued and celebrated.
Together we can forge women’s equality.
Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.

On IWD each year, and throughout the week in which the date falls, Addysg Oedolion Cymru | Adult Learning Wales traditionally runs a number of workshops and courses, which seek to celebrate women, not only from Wales, but from across the world, and this year is no different!

Today and throughout this week, we are delivering a number of inspiring and innovative workshops and courses, hosting a special event led by Rhian Mannings MBE, as well as taking the opportunity to embed the theme of the Day into courses across the curriculum offer. We are running workshops in Women’s Folk Music, Fashion Design: The Creativity of Zandra Rhodes, Women’s Place in Society through the Ages, Women and Motherhood and Women in Woodwork, to name but a few.

Please have a look here at the variety of activities we have on offer – we’d be delighted if you could join us, and be a part of a truly global movement, to both celebrate and elevate women and their achievements!

International Women’s Day is powered by the collective efforts of all; collective action, and shared ownership for driving gender parity, is what makes IWD impactful. As Gloria Steinem, world-renowned feminist, journalist and activist once explained, “The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist, nor to any one organization, but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights”. So, make #International Women’s Day’ your day, and do what you can, to truly make a positive difference for women.
