Our learners at the Maximus Digital Skills group in Rhyl celebrated their fantastic progress made over the last term!

A group of Digital Skills learners have been showcasing their work at a celebration event in Rhyl.  The learners attend a class provided by Maximus and Adult Learning Wales.  They have made fantastic progress since joining the class with Adult Learning Wales tutor, Janette Williams.  Many learners joined with little or no experience of using a computer and can now use a range of skills including sending emails, using the internet safely, using spreadsheets and producing documents with images and charts.

The learners spoke of their enjoyment of the course:

“There is a relaxed atmosphere in the class but we get on with the job to complete our tasks”

“The friendly nature of the class means we enjoy what we’re learning and it has been great for our wellbeing.”

“We’ve gained confidence and learned so many skills that we can use in our daily lives as so many services are now online only.”

“We’ve also learnt a lot about keeping safe online.”

They are at ease working at their own pace in a group with people at different levels, one of our learners said, “We all support one another and if one person has more knowledge than another, they offer help.”

At the celebration event our learners displayed posters that they had created using a range of software applications.  They presented the information and answered questions on it, showing the confidence they now have in digital and communication skills.

The group are now working towards an accredited digital literacy unit.  They are looking forward to continuing their work next term and completing the accreditation.
