We are pleased to announce that Emily Carter has been selected as the newest member of our Council (governing body). This follows the election held among our learners in October, which saw a record 12 candidates put themselves forward for this role.

In a close contest, Emily came top of the poll with 18% of the overall vote. We are thankful to all our learners who took part in this democratic process – whether as voters or as candidates – which ensures a voice for our students on the Council.

Emily hails from Treharris near Merthyr Tydfil. Having undertaken a number of courses in first aid, counselling and health & safety with Adult Learning Wales, she is now working towards a PCET (Post Compulsory Education and Training) qualification, which enables people to teach in the further, adult and vocational education sectors (16+ years).

Emily joins long-standing learner governors Cathy Clark and Jan Tiley, making up the three seats for learner representatives on our Council. She says: ‘I’m looking forward to the opportunity to join the Adult Learning Wales Council and to connect with everyone. I anticipate a rewarding journey of growth and collaboration together’. We wish her well in her new role.
