Are you a budding author who wants to take the next step forward by turning an idea into reality? Or do you have a creative idea but don’t know how to put it down on paper? If you are looking for inspiration, then look no further than Adult Learning Wales’ creative writing courses commencing this June in North West Wales with author and lecturer Dr DeAnn Bell.

Adult Learning Wales will run a number of eight-week in-person courses: Creative Writing and Creative Writing—Write Your First Novel. These courses run for two hours each week, and learners will have plenty of opportunities to learn about and discover new techniques for creative writing under Dr DeAnn Bell’s guidance.

The Creative Writing Course will start on Monday 3 June, 10.00am to 12.00pm at Canolfan Ebeneser, Llangefni, and no experience is necessary. The same course is also available to residents living in or near Amlwch, with the course running from Friday 7 June, 10am to 12pm at Clwb y Gorlan. The course will cover a series of fun, creative writing exercises and group discussions delivered in a relaxed and encouraging environment. Using a range of writing techniques and prompts, participants will tap into their creative potential, experiment with ideas, and ultimately build up the confidence to share their work.

The Creative Writing – Write Your First Novel course will run at a variety of locations across North Wales. Starting on Monday, 3 June at Canolfan Ebeneser, Llangefni, from 1.00pm to 3.00pm, Tuesday 4 June at Adult Learning Wales’ Bangor Office, from 1.00pm to 3.00pm, and on Friday afternoons, starting Friday 7 June, from 1.00pm to 3.00pm at Clwb y Gorlan, Amlwch. Learners only have to join one of these courses nearest to their location. The Creative Writing – Write Your First Novel is a comprehensive course that is designed for aspiring authors who are ready to turn their creative ideas into captivating narratives. Over the duration of the program, key elements will be explored such as plot development, character creation, setting, effective writing routines, and the art of creative expression. Learn the tools to bring your creative idea to life. No Formal requirements are required to join this course, but experience in one of Adult Learning Wales’ short fiction classes is helpful.

Dr DeAnn Bell will be leading both courses on behalf of Adult Learning Wales. DeAnn is a lecturer in creative writing, a member of the National Association of Writers in Education (NAWE), and a mentor for the North Wales Young Theatre Critics group at Venue Cymru. She is an accomplished author known for her captivating storytelling and ability to blend the fantastical with the deeply human. With a repertoire that spans various genres, DeAnn’s work continues to enchant and inspire readers worldwide. Her work includes The Sabbat Series, with her latest novel, Beltane Ash: The Fall of the Veil, published in February 2024. She has also written for Normal Deviation (a collection of stories), Fallow Times and the educational publication Four Methods for Teaching Creative Nonfiction Outside of the Traditional Workshop.

DeAnn, on the upcoming creative writing classes said:
