Celebrating our learner Alastair McIntosh for completing a number of courses!

Last week kicked off the start of this term’s Regional Forum meetings, during the next week we will be hosting meetings to hear from the rest of our regions. During these meetings we are able to find out how each region is getting on, discuss educational matters, hear the latest news and updates and get the chance to hear from our learners. In our North East forum, we were about to hear about the positive learning experience from one of our learners, Alastair McIntosh.

Alastair has successfully completed a range of courses through the partnership between Addysg Oedolion Cymru | Adult Learning Wales and KIM Inspire, kim-inspire.org.uk including ‘Welsh Culture: The Geography and People of Wales’ level 1, which led on to the level 2 ‘Improving Confidence’ course.

Alastair said, “I enjoyed the Welsh Culture course greatly. It was only a level 1 course, but it eased me back into learning – something I hadn’t done for just over 30 years. I enjoyed the content of the course as well as meeting some lovely people in the group. The course was the perfect jumping off point for further learning, giving me confidence in my ability to participate in formal education. I learnt a lot about the area of Wales I’d always lived in. The course enriched my knowledge of my comparatively local area and showed me just how steeped in history North Wales is.”

Alastair continues, “One of the main things I took away from this course was the realization that “I can do this”, going back to an educational body may be daunting, but I have proved to myself I can cope and by doing so improved my self-esteem.

The main takeaway I would say to others is, if like me you were held back by self-doubt push that to one side and give it a go. Both Kim-Inspire and Addysg Oedolion Cymru | Adult learning Wales are brilliant, and the course is easy to follow, and you are given all the support that you need to give you the perfect opportunity to pass.”

We would like to thank Alastair for sharing his experience and congratulate him for completing his courses. We look forward to hearing what you do next!
