Due to learner demand in Newtown, Powys, a number of Saturday Craft Workshops have been held this term, at ALWs Training Room, at St David’s House. The workshops focus on developing skills in Macramé, sewing and patchwork/quilting.

On Saturday, 22nd November, a number of learners attended an ‘Introduction to Patchwork and Quilting’ all-day Workshop. The project for the day was to complete a folded patchwork coaster. The Workshop involved selecting appropriate fabrics, cutting project pieces according to a cutting chart, constructing the coaster, and finishing it with an all-in-one backing and binding method. The learners also learned how the block could be used to make a table runner.

Danielle Walters, one of our fantastic Craft tutors in North Powys, delivered the Workshop. Danielle also delivers a weekly Sewing Skills class, in nearby Welshpool. Last week, learners on that course were using their skills developed over the past term to create and make seasonal decorations and gifts. They have made felt Christmas Puddings using hand sewing and have embellished their work with embroidery stitches, including French knots.

Tremendous work Danielle, and all of your learners! Your hard work has certainly paid off, and learners have made some beautiful items.
