Our ESOL learners took a trip to Swansea Museum!

At the end of March some of our learners from the introduction to IT skills for ESOL and AMIF project took an educational trip to Swansea Museum to develop their interest in and knowledge of Welsh culture and history.

During the visit, our learners were given the opportunity to learn how people lived in nineteenth century Swansea. They looked at artefacts and discussed what they might have been used for and how they were used. They used the 1851 Census to learn in detail about how people in Swansea lived.

Our tutor Clare Jones says, “The learners had fun. They were talking and chatting with each other and enjoyed the complimentary coffee (from the Museum) and cakes (from AMIF)! They all want to go again. The trip has helped our learners integrate into Swansea and also Welsh culture. We talked about everything being bilingual and the Welsh language! Our learners also had the opportunity to explore some digital tools in the museum. As I am teaching the learners IT, this was something that integrated very well!”

Our learners feedback includes, Nasrin: “IT is good to know about the history and what happened. I will learn more general knowledge”.

Salma: “We can learn so many things. It was very good experience.”

Sughra: “The worksheet helped us to remember. I will bring my children.”

All learners are looking forward to another trip in the summer term and explore the museum further!

We’re glad to hear that these trips help our learners and look forward to hearing what they do next!
