Our ESOL: Practical Writing Skills Course helps to make a difference!

Our ESOL learner Anhelina Vovk tells us how the Practical Writing Skills course helped her improve her English skills and secure employment having only lived in Wales since 2022.

Anhelina  said, “I came to the UK in May 2022 from Ukraine after the war started. My English was so poor, I could not get a job or talk with people so I decided to improve my knowledge and joined the ESOL course which Adult Learning Wales provided at the Llantrisant Jobcentre.

I have learnt that there are a lot of English words that spelling and pronouns are the same but they have different meanings. I have also learnt some technics for memorising the spelling of words. In addition, I have learnt how to use punctuation and how to build simple, compound and complex sentences using connectives and conjunctions. I really liked how our tutor Marta taught the lessons, it was always interesting and funny. I enjoyed the varieties of lessons themes, I was never bored.

After finishing this course, I improved my writing skills and had opportunity to get the job. I can write working letters and emails almost without a translator. Also, I make notes for myself in English. I got a job at Adult Learning Wales, which I really enjoy – I still cannot believe it! I don’t want to stop at personal development and want to join a new higher-level course.”

Tutor, Marta Malenczyk said, “Anhelina has been an amazing learner from the moment I met her. She was always prepared and eager to learn. She has an amazing attitude towards learning. Anhelina is hard-working, very ambitious and determined. She also has a great sense of humour, which I will miss. She worked very hard to progress in ESOL, and I am over the moon to find out that she has now secured a job at Adult Learning Wales . What a great achievement! I will miss Anhelina in my classes, but I am so happy for her!  I wish Anhelina all the best for the future!”

We would like to congratulate Anhelina on her hard work and achievements and are very happy to welcome her into the organisation! We wish her the very best for her future!
