Our North Wales Region’s Exploring Enterprise learners have been developing their entrepreneurial business skills in ‘Dragon’s Den’ style lessons.

This initiative was in partnership with WeMindTheGap team Wrexham which supports young women to develop life skills.

Each group were tasked to develop a business idea that they would work on together. Our learners would touch upon different aspects of setting up a business such as finance, marketing, sales and market research. They would then conduct research, work on their idea and develop this into a pitch they could put to the "Dragons" during a presentation session.

Our tutor Jayne Rogers says, “Our learners came up with some wonderful ideas including a bespoke plush character, using hemp as an alternative to plastic, a mobile pet photography booth and a personalised mental health app. They worked hard on their research and their presentations and they all put forward viable business ideas that they had costed and planned. It was difficult to choose a winner, but it was the Angel Hands mental health app by Chloe Evans and Rhian Vernon that came out on top.”

Our winning learner Chloe Evans said, “We were so happy to win, we put a lot of work into it and although it was quite daunting doing the presentation we were very proud of ourselves afterwards."

This course helps learners to develop team working and communication skills, along with digital creativity skills. They get to learn the basics about starting a new business and take a deeper look into marketing, sales, finance and market research. Learners are able to work independently to come up with innovative and creative new business ideas which they then develop into a pitch.

Curriculum Development Coordinator Laura Jones said, “Working with WeMindTheGap has been a great experience and we have really enjoyed teaching their “gappies” and we look forward to continuing the partnership.”

We would like to congratulate our learners on completing this inspiring course and look forward to seeing what they achieve in the future!
