Our Powys flower arranging tutor Jayne Griffiths, has been teaching basic flower arranging skills to a variety of adult learners at Addysg Oedolion Cymru | Adult Learning Wales since February 2021. Jayne trained as a florist for four years, and tells us that teaching is the way she relaxes in her busy life. During the lessons, Jayne shares her skills, and takes great pride in the work her learners achieve.

Jayne’s learners do not need any prior experience before joining this course. Each course runs for six weeks at a time. During the lessons, learners discover how to prepare and condition flowers, as well as learn how to create basic arrangements and how they’re maintained and displayed.

As well as teaching at Addysg Oedolion Cymru | Adult Learning Wales, Jayne has been helping to raise awareness and funds for many charities. Her hard work was recognised in January 2021 when she was awarded an MBE.

Jayne says, “I was awarded my MBE for my charity work with Tesco. I am the Tesco Community Champion at the Llandrindod Wells store and over the last four years, I have raised more than £100,000 for Diabetes UK, Cancer UK and the British Heart Foundation. I have also provided support to local groups throughout Powys and have run a Health Hub offering advice. Diabetes nurses, Cancer charities and the British heart foundation all attend the Hub to provide information to the local community. At the Hub, information and advice is given to help people understand the illnesses and signs to look out for. If people feel that they are at risk, or are showing symptoms, then they are advised to see a doctor. The main aim is to raise awareness and encourage people to seek help when required.”
