Our talented Wrexham learners wonderfully performed their end of academic year show Romeo and Juliet recently in front of a packed audience of family and friends.

The group are taught by Adult Learning Wales partner tutors Anna and Jamie from Emerge Community Arts – and the course sessions take place at the Brynteg Memorial Centre, Wrexham.

This was a modern version of Romeo and Juliet with a twist – a happy ending – with Romeo and Juliet getting married and starting a family! The hall was filled with legendary music from Elvis to Oasis within an exciting atmosphere of laughter and fun.   The show was at the end of a busy term for the learners and allowed them to showcase the skills developed during the course. This was the first performance in front of an audience for some of the learners, with many learners having overcome barriers and built confidence during their course.

Supported by Curriculum Development Coordinator Gaynor Hanlon, Emerge Community Arts works in partnership with Adult Learning Wales to promote independent living and life and work skills via music, drama and creative writing to support personal growth. These events provide the chance for family and friends to come together to see for themselves what our talented performers have learned.  In the words of Anna from Emerge, “It’s a celebration and a chance for our learners to be seen and heard.”

All the learners were certainly seen and heard by all who thoroughly enjoyed this creative and fun interpretation of Romeo and Juliet. We look forward to seeing their next performance!
