Adult Learning Wales: Our Commitment to Sanctuary
Adult Learning Wales is committed to creating welcoming and inclusive learning environments where people seeking sanctuary can rebuild confidence, develop skills and participate fully in Welsh communities. Through accessible community-based learning we support refugees, asylum seekers and migrants to develop language skills, build social connections and progress towards employment, volunteering and further learning.
Colleges of Sanctuary are colleges:
- that learn about what it means to be seeking sanctuary,
- that embed concepts of welcome, safety and inclusion into their very fabric,
- and that share and celebrate their achievements.
Our Sanctuary Pledge:
- Provide accessible learning opportunities that support sanctuary seekers to rebuild confidence and develop skills
- Promote understanding and awareness of sanctuary issues across our learning communities
- Celebrate the contribution of refugees and migrants to Welsh society
- Work in partnership with organisations supporting people seeking sanctuary
Adult Learning Wales supports the Welsh Government’s vision of Wales as a Nation of Sanctuary and believes that education plays a vital role in building inclusive, resilient communities.
